A note from Mrs. Davis
We are having a friendly competition between homerooms to see who can have all of their students register for next year first. The first homeroom with 100% will have a pizza party! Please take a few minutes to finish up your online registration for the 24-25 school year. ALL returning and new families MUST complete this before next year.

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford are parents of a Brooks Alum and a current student. When Mrs. Crisp asked me to find help with building a greenhouse, I reached out to them for help. Not only did they build our new greenhouse, they did the research to get it build securely even seeking donations of concrete and further support in getting it build. Our students are excited to plant their first seeds in the newly finished greenhouse. Thank you, Cliffords!

Our word of the month is COOPERATION. I want to take this opportunity to share my gratitude for the cooperation between families and our staff. To create successful students in academics and behavior, we must work together as a team. When students make mistakes in behavior or need support in learning, it is an incredible feeling to reach out to the home and get strength in support. Every day this past week, I was able to have at least one conversation with a family member that was a strong example of cooperation. It makes me even more proud to work in the Brooks community. YOU are #theBESt and I hope to tell you more often.

This month’s focus is Honesty.
Set aside some time to gather as a family and check in with each other. Ask each family member, “How are you feeling today?” Practice Honesty when responding and listen carefully as each family member shares. Challenge yourselves to check in with each other on a regular basis!
Emotion Check-In Questions:
Tell me more about that feeling.
Why do you think you are feeling that emotion?
What do you need right now?

This month’s focus is Honesty. One way to think about Honesty is “being truthful in what you say and do.” Practicing Honesty helps strengthen our relationships and even reduces stress. Honesty is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Well. Across grade levels, students are developing skills like emotion regulation, positive self-talk, and stress-management.
Review Honesty as a family! Discuss the importance of being Honest and work together to create a family Honesty pledge. Create and decorate a sign together that explains what Honesty means in your family. Have each family member sign the pledge and choose a spot to display it. Refer back to the pledge as a reminder to be Honest and to celebrate when Honesty is practiced!

Hello Brooks Elementary Families:
We just kicked off our school’s Kids Heart Challenge! Students and staff are excited to get going on helping kids with special hearts and learning how to take care of our own. If you haven’t already, JOIN OUR TEAM at heart.org/schools or by downloading the AHA Schools app.
Once you’re on the team, be sure to complete Finn’s Mission. That’s where you’ll learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR, which when given immediately can double (even triple) a person’s chance of surviving cardiac arrest. Other missions will help you raise funds for kids with special hearts and learn the warning signs of a stroke.
As always, our students will have the opportunity to earn thank-you gifts for themselves and funds and equipment for our school.

Hi families!
We are getting ready to kick off the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge (KHC)! This year, we are working to help all our students, staff and families learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR. It’s easy to learn and even our youngest students can play a part by calling 911 and finding a trusted adult. And, as always, we will all be learning how to take care of our hearts and minds, while helping raise funds for kids with special hearts!
